Paolo Fornasiero is Full Professor and Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Trieste, where he also serves as Vice-Rector for Research, Deputy Director of the Department, and Member of the Academic Senate. His research focuses on inorganic chemistry, particularly the design of multifunctional nanomaterials for heterogeneous catalysis, energy conversion, and environmental sustainability.
He has co-invented three patents and authored more than 350 papers in leading international journals, including Science, Nature, Nature Energy, PNAS, Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie, and Journal of the American Chemical Society. His publications have received more than 44,000 citations (H-index 99, Scopus). Since 2015, he has served as Associate Editor of ACS Catalysis and, since 2021, as Executive Editor.
Professor Fornasiero is a member of Academia Europaea and the European Academy of Sciences. He has served on several prestigious international evaluation panels, including the ERC Advanced Grant (PE4) panels, and has received numerous national and international distinctions, including the Heinz Heinemann Award, the Maria Teresa Messori Roncaglia and Eugenio Mari Award of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, and the 2026 Royal Society of Chemistry Environment, Sustainability and Energy Horizon Prize.
